Employment in Eindhoven
The Eindhoven region is built on high-technology manufacturing and R&D - semiconductor equipment, photonics, automotive and the engineering supply chain feeding them. It employs an unusually high proportion of foreign specialists on skilled-migrant permits, in roles where knowledge is the asset. That combination produces employment contracts unusually heavy on restrictive covenants, confidentiality and intellectual property terms, and disputes that turn on those clauses rather than on dismissal procedure.
Common employment problems in Eindhoven
Non-compete clauses that may be void
In a fixed-term contract a non-compete is valid only if a written motivation accompanying the clause shows a compelling business interest. A generic confidentiality sentence is not that. Without it, a judge may annul the clause entirely.
Non-solicitation clauses alongside them
A relatiebeding restricting contact with clients or colleagues is often the more practically restrictive of the two and is frequently overlooked when people check their contract.
Intellectual property and invention clauses
Contracts in the cluster commonly assign rights in anything created during employment. The scope of those clauses, and what happens to work done before or outside the role, is a recurring dispute.
Restructuring in the supply chain
Programme cancellations at a large employer ripple through suppliers. Where redundancy is for economic reasons, the employer needs advance permission and the selection follows a statutory rule rather than management preference.
Relocation and skilled-migrant terms
Expat packages, relocation clawbacks and permit-linked employment interact with the end of a contract in ways that are worth checking before agreeing an end date.
Where a case would be heard
East Brabant District Court
Rechtbank Oost-Brabant
Sits at: Eindhoven - the court sits in both Eindhoven and 's-Hertogenbosch
Eindhoven is an active hearing location, so a local employment dispute does not have to be heard in 's-Hertogenbosch.
How finding a lawyer in Eindhoven works
FindLawyer is a matching service operated by Leadvise Legal B.V., which is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. You send your situation and documents, FindLawyer reviews them and tells you honestly whether involving a lawyer is worth it, and if it is, introduces an independent English-speaking employment lawyer.
The lawyer decides whether to accept the matter, confirms their own fees and provides all legal advice. Any FindLawyer fee is explained before you decide anything, and the initial 15-minute matching call is free.

Non-compete clause blocking a move in Eindhoven
Many non-competes in fixed-term contracts are void on their face, because the required written motivation is missing.
Read the full explanationEmployment law in Eindhoven: common questions
Is my non-compete enforceable if my contract is fixed-term?
Only if a written motivation accompanying the clause shows it was necessary because of compelling business interests. Without that specific motivation the clause is vulnerable to being annulled in full.
Can a judge shorten a non-compete instead of cancelling it?
Yes. A judge can annul a clause wholly or partly, so an overly broad clause can be cut back in duration, geography or scope. Breadth is what makes a clause vulnerable.
Is it true non-competes will be limited to 12 months?
That is a proposal, not law. A bill went to the Council of State in June 2026 and has not been submitted to parliament. Your clause is judged under the law as it currently stands.
Would my case be heard in Eindhoven or 's-Hertogenbosch?
Eindhoven is an active hearing location of the East Brabant District Court, so a local employment matter can be heard in Eindhoven.
